29th June 2013
Due to personal circumstances the adoptive daddy of Rudi and Pinky had to go back to his country and asked us if we could take them back.
Today we went to pick them up and we were very upset with this very emotional goodbye...
Rudi and Pinky are in a room by themselves for now but when they are ready for it we will introduce them to all their new brothers and sisters.
They will stay here forever.....

We are still counting (cat)heads because the Fox Terriers who killed Pina 2 weeks ago escaped again this morning!
They even attacked us (!) and we don't know yet if they killed (again) one of our cats....
This is so upsetting and something has to be done. The owner is always "very sorry" but doesn't do anything about it!
What can we do????

In the afternoon we got a phonecall about two kittens who were seen in an old building in Mellieha. We went there and saw two (beautiful) kittens. After 3 hours trying to catch them, we left them plenty wet and dry food and water,
secured the windows -so they can't go out in the (busy) street- and we'll go a again tomorrow to try to catch them...

We got the results for Bro from the vet.
The X-rays showed that the infection is gone (that's the good news!) but due to the infection he had (for a long time), the bones are growing from only one side, which causes his bended leg.
It's coming worse because he's growing and putting more weight on his leg...
He has to be operated next week; the vet will try to straighten his leg.
This operation is going to cost a lot of money so please donate!

At 5.30 in the morning, the time we start feeding, we found Sina injured, bleeding from her mouth... She was hit by a car and we speeded to Centru San Frangisk, the only Animal Hospital in Malta, open 24/7. When the vet on duty put her on the drip she stopped breathing.... R.I.P. dear Sina. |

Just looking back at another very busy week...
Phonecalls about found abandoned cats and kittens every day which is very upsetting because we don't have a sanctuary and only have limited space.
We do what we can but people seem not to understand that we are a voluntary organisation with hardly any funds coming in; everybody wants our help without donating ANYTHING!
We have a lot of expenses taking care of all the cats and the kittens because the ones we take in are almost always sick and need medication and, of course, the best food...
We don't even talk about how much catlitter we need and how many washings we have every day....
Last week we found out that the two kittens who we picked up from the Reflections-area (Alia & Sammy) had ringworm (a fungal infection) and because they were in our "baby-room" together with the other (healthy) kittens (Fonzi & Gussy) we moved them to another foster-home.
Unfortunately this was too late because this week we took Fonzi and Gussy to the vet for a check-up and they were already infected...
Because Alia and Sammy were very unhappy in their new foster-home (they didn't want to eat and were very upset) we took them back and now they're all happy together again in the "baby-room", playing and eating!
They are all on medication for 30 days, which means that we can't home them before that time....
At least Alex and Pico have always been in another room and they are very healthy!
We took Bro to the vet on the 13th June for X-rays. We are waiting for the results.
Most females are still nursing so we don't want to catch and neuter them but we neutered 2 males.
At this time we don't have time or space to do more...
On Thursday evening we got a phonecall that a small kitten was found injured in a busy road in Mellieha.
It was the sister of Pico, who we were trying to catch already for a couple of weeks because she had very infected eyes.
One of our volunteers took her in but today she had breathing problems and the vet was called.
Her temperature was very low, she had fluid in her lungs and there was no chance to save her.
Not to let her suffer more the vet decided that it was the best to put her asleep... a very sad ending of this week....

We took Alex to another vet for a second opinion because we couldn't believe that he had FIP, a deadly disease.... We were right: he doesn't have FIP and is just a healthy kitten! Maybe he has a bug in his intestines, which caused his bloated tummy, so he will be treated for this. He's such a sweetheart, playing all the time by himself; hopefully he'll find a loving forever home! |

A very sad day... Our dear Pina was killed by two Fox Terriers who escaped from their home. They also killed all the chickens at another house in our area... The owner of the dogs told us that he's "very sorry" ..... Is being sorry enough?????? !!!! Dog owners have to make sure that their dog(s) can't escape!!! R.I.P. dear Pina. |

Fuxa came home after a 5 weeks holiday! Because he was the only small kitten at that time and didn't learn anything from his mother or siblings, we decided to let him stay with his "cousins" who were fostered at another place. He had a great time and learned a lot but it's so good to have him back again! |
